"A Tale of Time City" Discussion Post!
So I know we said that we would discuss "A Tale of Time City" on June 19th, but real life got crazy and so we're just a few days late.  BUT NOW IT'S GAME ON!

A few questions to get the discussion rolling:

How cool is Time City?

What do you think of the way that history can "go critical?"

What were your favorite inventions or wardrobe items in Time City (or in history)?

What was up with the abrupt ending?

Diana Wynne Jones is pretty badass, right?

What parts did you like best? What parts did you like least?

Do you think the future will indeed contain "Mind Wars?"

Please feel free to pose your own discussion questions in the comments!

I think my favorite part of the story was how exansive "time" was. Oftentimes in books about time travel they are only traveling to a couple of points in the past, or to one particular version of the future. I really loved how "the future" (or I guess the future to us) was thousands of years with many different manifestations.

I also loved how there were time tourists in Time City, although I want to know how certain people got to be tourists and others did not. Who knows that Time City exists? Why wouldn't everyone want to live there?

I really do love it when time extends further (and I like the eras idea - the time is shaped like a circle thing), but I think stuff like the "eighty-second century" tends to fall flat for me. Our progress in the last hundred years has been literally astronomical. I can't imagine what things are going to be like in 50 years.

What happens in the 82nd century lol? Things started to run together for me with the Golden Age & the Silver Age and whatnot.

I was thinking about how they chose the people too! Weren't they sworn to secrecy or something? If that was the case, how did not even one person tell other people who weren't allowed in the city. I don't know, I never got that part.

How weird would it be if you could see your own time ghosts around your yard and that kind of thing? I would probably get really embarrassed. The idea is that the occasion is ~momentous~ and emotionally charged, so it would probably be a lot of me sitting outside my house in a boyfriend's car. IDGAF.

My time ghost would be at the computer. Getting notices about reviews of her fanfics. MOMENTOUS.

My time ghost would probably be something embarrassing that I didn't want people seeing. Like me giving birth.
